1. Online Training
To access TARLA, the following training modules must be completed through our online training platform:
- General Health and Safety Orientation (HSO)
- Radiation Safety Training
You can complete your training by logging in with your TARLA User Portal credentials. We highly recommend completing your training before arriving on site to reduce check-in time.

You may need additional trainings that include:
- Beamline-Specific Orientation (BSO)
- Experiment-Specific Safety Instructions
2. Building Access
The TARLA main entrance is the entrance gate to the TARLA campus within the Ankara University Gölbaşı Campus. First-time users are directed to the user office after their names are recorded at the entrance gates. At the user office, their photos are taken and they are issued access cards. Users with valid access cards can enter designated areas. Visitor escort privileges are granted only to authorized individuals.
3. Access Requirements
To receive a TARLA facility access badge, users must:
- Be registered in the TARLA User Portal
- Belong to an institution with a valid User Access Agreement
- Be listed as a team member in an approved project
- Complete all required safety trainings
- Present valid government-issued photo ID
- Be at least 18 years old
4. Foreign Visitor Requirements
Non-Turkish citizens should check Turkish visa requirements via e-Visa Turkey.
Invitation letters can be requested via useroffice@tarla-fel.org. Please allow sufficient time for visa processing.

5. Roles and Responsibilities
- Spokesperson: Responsible for overall experiment coordination
📌Responsibilities of the Project Spokesperson
The project spokesperson applying for experimental work at the TARLA facility is responsible for fulfilling the following duties and responsibilities:
- Ensuring that all information contained in the project application form and any additional documents is accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
- In the event of any changes to the project, ensuring that these changes are reported to the TARLA user office in a timely manner so that the application file can be updated.
- If hazardous substances or equipment requiring special conditions are to be used during the experiment, ensure that all team members acquire the necessary training and experience in accordance with relevant legislation and TARLA’s occupational health and safety rules.
📌Basic safety training is provided by TARLA. The project spokesperson is responsible for providing training related to project-specific tasks or risks.
- Ensure that all team members are informed about the potential risks associated with the experimental work to be carried out and the measures to be taken to reduce these risks.
- If materials or samples need to be imported from abroad, ensure that the relevant permits and documents are obtained in accordance with the relevant national regulations.
The spokesperson acts as the main point of contact between the project team and TARLA throughout the process, from the application stage to the completion of the experiment, and is responsible for ensuring that the work carried out complies with TARLA rules.
- Research Team Members: Must comply with all safety regulations
📌Responsibilities of Project Team Members Conducting Experiments at TARLA
Only project team members who have received appropriate training and possess sufficient experience are authorized to handle hazardous substances or equipment at TARLA. The responsibilities of authorized team members are as follows:
- Understand their responsibilities and conduct their work in a safe and responsible manner to protect their own health and safety, as well as that of others who may be affected by their actions or negligence.
- Comply with relevant legal regulations, the applicable standards set by regulatory authorities, and TARLA’s health and safety policies, principles, procedures, and practices.
- Adhere to the rules and safety measures outlined in the experiment documentation approved through the TARLA user system.
- Ensure that they have received and understood all safety training, procedures, and relevant safety information from their supervisor and/or TARLA Health & Safety unit before beginning any work involving hazardous materials. This training must include the proper use and maintenance of protective equipment, safety devices, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
📌Basic safety training specific to the TARLA facility is provided by the TARLA Health & Safety unit.
- Provide appropriate containers and disinfectants for the transportation and handling of hazardous materials.
- Ensure that hazardous waste is disposed of in accordance with TARLA’s waste management procedures.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe; clean and/or disinfect any spills, contaminated equipment, surfaces, or floors during and after the experiment. Each team member is individually responsible for their own workspace and jointly responsible for the condition of shared areas.
- Follow proper hygiene practices to prevent personal exposure and cross-contamination.
- Immediately notify the TARLA Health & Safety unit in case of any exposure, accident, or malfunction of safety or containment equipment, and complete and submit an Incident Report Form to the appropriate personnel.
These responsibilities must be fulfilled completely by all team members to ensure a safe and accountable research environment at TARLA.
- TARLA Authorized Personnel: Provide access, training, and safety oversight
📌Responsibilities of TARLA Authorized Personnel
Authorized personnel at TARLA (including supervisors, responsible experts, and coordinators) are responsible for ensuring that workers under their supervision have the necessary work authorization, safety training, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other required controls in place to perform their duties safely. When needed, they should consult TARLA’s Health and Safety (HSE) unit to ensure compliance with legal and institutional safety requirements.
The responsibilities of TARLA Authorized Personnel include:
- Being familiar with their responsibilities and performing their duties in a safe and responsible manner to protect their own health and safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by their actions or negligence.
- Cooperating with their supervisors and working in accordance with the instructions of the TARLA HSE unit or any other regulatory body tasked with enforcing safety measures.
- Ensuring that they have received proper work authorization, which includes safety training, PPE, and all relevant safety information from their supervisor and/or TARLA HSE unit before beginning work in areas where hazardous materials are present or other risks exist.
- Immediately reporting any unsafe acts, conditions, or behaviors to their supervisor or the TARLA HSE unit.
